Osmani International Airport is the only hope of Sylhet division for air travel. Hundreds of people travel through this airport every day. However, due to Cyclone Sitrang, the regular routine of this airport is disrupted. Apart from this, the airport has to face emergency situations. However, the situation has been normal since morning.

Those concerned said that due to the inclement weather due to the impact of Cyclone Sitrang, the flights at Osmani International Airport were stopped since Monday evening. A total of three flights were cancelled.

However, even though the flight was stopped, it was not possible to stop the landing. The situation of Dhaka, Chittagong and other airports in the country was more dangerous than Osmani Airport. As a result, flights from different parts of the world made emergency landings at Osmani.

The number of emergency landing flights is 8. Among them, one flight comes from Syedpur, the rest are international flights.

US-Bangla Airlines Assistant Station Manager Syed Belayet Ali Limon said five of their flights made an emergency landing at Osmani Airport. Among them, four flights come from Chennai, Kolkata, Dubai and Singapore. Another flight was domestic.

Limon said, “In my 16-year career in airlines, I have never seen so many flights diverted and landed at Osmani Airport at the same time.”

He said that the passengers of their flights are arranged to stay in hotels under the management of the airlines.

Other airlines also provide hotels and meals for passengers under their own management.

Osmani International Airport manager Hafiz Ahmad said, “Due to the cyclone, flight operations were stopped. Three flights were cancelled. However, eight flights that came for an emergency landing landed at Osmani. Among them, seven flights were international.

He also said, “The situation has been normal since this morning.” The flights are going to the destination as per the schedule.
